Choosing the right Toilet

One of the most used yet underrated items in your home is without doubt your toilet. Often overlooked and forgotten about when thinking of your dream bathroom, there is no bathroom, en-suite, or WC complete without one. And while you think choosing your loo will be one of the most straightforward choices when it comes to completing your bathroom, there are quite a few options to choose from.

Close Coupled Toilet

This is the most common style of toilet where the cistern sits directly above the pan.  The cistern is mounted to the wall while the pan is fixed to the floor.  The name close coupled comes from the cistern being closer to the pan than old type toilets where the cistern was mounted high on the wall above the pan.

Wall Hung

Wall hung toilets are ideal for small spaces, and are a popular choice for modern and contemporary homes. These toilets hang from the wall thanks to a sturdy metal frame which is hidden in the wall along with the cistern. Wall hung toilets offer great design choice and flexibility with flush plates available in a wide range of colours and styles to suit every taste. The elevated design makes cleaning quick and easy as there are no pipes below or cistern above to catch dust.

Back To Wall Toilet

Also known as ‘fully shrouded’, the cistern is hidden away within the toilet itself or in a furniture unit so that the back of the toilet sits flush to the wall.  This makes for a neater finish with no plumbing on show and offers an easy to clean option as there are no external pipes to gather dust.

Comfort Height Toilet

Comfort height toilets are slightly higher than standard (4cm – 5cm).  This extra height reduces pressure on knees and lower body joints, making sitting down and standing up easier. Comfort height toilets are ideal for those who are less mobile.

 

Features

Toilets also feature added extras that you should look out for.

• Rimless: If you are concerned about hygiene (or just want to make your life a little bit easier) we recommend rimless toilets. These toilets have been designed without the traditional rim, making cleaning much easier and giving germs and nasties no place to hide.
• Dual Flush: Many toilets nowadays have been designed with water saving in mind.  Dual Flush toilets have two different flush volumes – meaning that you can choose when to use less water for your flush.
• High Level: This is a traditional, old style toilet with a pull chain flush, where the cistern is wall mounted high above the pan and connected with a long pipe.
• Low Level:  The same traditional look as a High Level toilet, but with a shorter pipe connecting the cistern and pan.
